If your computer's been running slow or acting up, a virus might be to
blame. The best way to find out is to perform a virus scan on your computer
using installed anti-virus software, like that provided in the
Verizon Internet Security Suite.
However, if you aren't running anti-virus software on your machine, you
still can check it for viruses using a Web-based scan.
Free scans are available from such companies as Trend Micro, Panda Software
and McAfee. (Note: Some free scans only detect threats but don't provide
removal tools.)
Of course, the best defense against viruses and worms is to take preventative
measures. Make sure that your firewall is enabled and that if you already
have anti-virus software on your computer, it's current.
(Once activated, the Verizon Internet Security Suite anti-virus program
automatically updates every 3 hours.) Finally, PC users should stay aware
of the latest Windows updates. You can access these updates either through
your Start menu or online at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
